The tomb at Bunhill Fields
London Metropolitan Archives holds a record of inscriptions from the stones at Bunhill Fields taken in 1867. Most are now unreadable, including that from the Pearce family vault. The transcription reads:
George son of George and Elizabeth Pearce, Grandson of the late William Pearce Esqr. of St Swithin’s Lane (16 mos) 17 May 1831
Also Elizabeth, wife of George Pearce (31) 4 Sept 1831
Stewart Peter Pearce Esq (57) 22 Dec 1840
Charles Thomas Pearce Esq. (61) 6 Nov 1847
These were Mary’s baby cousin and aunt by marriage (whose deaths she refers to in Chapter Four), her father, and her uncle (my great great great grandfather).
